going on a cruise to st. Thomas. is there anything to do at port or should I book an excursion

We hired a taxi and went to one of the popular beaches there. Think it was Megans Bay Beach that we went to and the beach there was fine. Certainly a lot cheaper than booking the "Beach Excursion" with your carrier and you can leave when you want, not when your excursion carrier dictates. Plenty of taxis available to get you back to the ship on time. Can't remember the taxi cost. Always better if you can get others to share with you but even just two people will be cheaper than an excursion.
